Hakham Yosef Tzarfati was born in the city of Adrianople (Edirne), Turkey. He was among the greatest preachers and commentators of the Acharonim period, known primarily for his famous work "Yad Yosef".

His Journey to the Land of Israel

On his way to the Land of Israel, he studied at the yeshiva of Hakham Shlomo ben Yitzchak HaLevi in Salonika. Hakham David Conforte attests that he was "a wise elder, deeply learned and pious, who went to Jerusalem and passed away there."
